The runners-up of last season fell in the third round for Thursday’s draw after Benfica overcame the qualification and their tie in Group C faces the most expensive player in the world, $ 198 million Neymar, and the winner of the World Cup, Kylian Mbappe, among others.

Liverpool and PSG have been avoided so far in the Champions League, and their last meeting was in the 1997 European Cup Winners’ Cup, when the Reds lost the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

Red Star Belgrade scored a 0-0 draw against Napoli on the Serbian team’s debut in the Champions League when goalkeeper Milan Borjan made a barrage of attacks in an exciting clash of Group C on Tuesday.

The visitors hit twice the wood and missed a series of opportunities, leaving frustrated his manager, Carlo Ancelotti, after losing points in a difficult group that also includes Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

“He was close, we just missed the final spark,” said Ancelotti, who also praised Borjan and refused to criticize his players.

“We have not been able to win an important game, but there are five more and we can defeat anyone, we made small errors when passing and shooting and we had bad luck.”

The Red Star international defender in Australia, Milos Degenek, was overwhelmed by the atmosphere.

“I almost burst into tears when I heard the roar of the terraces,” he told reporters.

“It was a dream come true, it was a tough game, we fought a lot and we had to defend ourselves for very long periods, we are delighted and now we have made life difficult for Napoli.”

Napoli dominated the first half and twice came close to taking the lead when Lorenzo Insigne shook the crossbar and Borjan denied Arkadiusz Milik from close range with a good reflex stop.

Encouraged by the fervent 55,000 fans of the home crowd, the winners of the 1991 European Cup, Red Star, rarely got out of their own half, but their full midfield and well-organized defense kept Napoli at bay.

Several last-gasp tackles early in the second half kept the Red Star afloat and threatened for the first time in the 58th minute when Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina got rid of a low shot from substitute Dusan Jovancic.

Borjan stifled an effort by Piotr Zielinski shortly after and substitute Dries Mertens fired from the edge of the six-yard area, while Napoli continued to build up pressure with a quick one-touch pass.

Mario Rui shaved off the bar with a curling free kick and a Red Star defender cleared Jose Callejon’s shot off the line after another fast attack by the visitors on the left flank, with the home team dangling desperately.

With the 1991 Red Star generation watching after receiving a standing ovation from the fans before the start, the home team almost scored against the line of play when Ospina saved a shot in the 80th minute from striker Richmond Boakye.

Napoli could not find the way in the final stages when Red Star closed ranks, drawing great applause from his fans after rescuing a point with a great performance.
